Demian regularly presents his research at academic conferences, provides executive education and is a frequent moderator, speaker and/or chairperson for industry events including, most recently, the International Hotel Investment Forum, ITB, the European Hotel Managers Association, the Boutique Hotel Summit, the Young Hoteliers Summit and the Budget & Economy Hotels Asia conference. He sits on the Board of Directors of several organizations including the Grand Hotel des Bains and the Centre Thermal Cité des Bains (both in Yverdon, Switzerland) as well as the International School of Lausanne. He has also been invited to deliver lectures and classes at other universities such as IMD (Switzerland) and Lincoln University (Argentina).
Prior to beginning his academic career Demian spent 15 years working in the hospitality industry on four continents. He has worked with or for several international hotel companies including Accor, Holiday Inn and Choice Hotels. Most recently, he was a hotel general manager and the president of a hotel management and consulting company in Buenos Aires, Argentina which oversaw a number of hotels, restaurants and bars. He holds a Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of Surrey’s School of Management, a Masters (Honors) from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and a B.A. in comparative religions and philosophy from Georgetown University
